WELCOME TO A NIGHTMARE OF DREAMS...

In the near future a human in a cage ponders life before they took control. QUEERMANIA; Nightmare of Dreams is an experimental mixed media performance that explores the question; what are homophobes, transphobes, and bigots afraid of exactly?

Somewhere our nameless hero/villain is trapped, recounting their experiences to an authority that is actively anti-straight. Each recollection is a crime forming a story told via the actor and repurposed pop culture footage; a jigsaw story of newspapers, diary entries, film/TV clips, social media posts, advertisements, fractured radio broadcasts, talking heads designed to confuse and delight. Homophobes is your hell truly a homosexual heaven, or have we all been deceived?

Inspired by the infamous 90’s study by Mark Hatzenbuehler that concluded that people who are gay, lesbian, or bisexual can have a shortened life expectancy of about 12 years in high-stigma communities. Each of the 12 fragments of QUEERMANIA is themed around the queer experience through the eyes of hate. Why do people have negative feelings towards those in the LGBTQ+ community? What would the world look like if the fears of a homophobe become realised?"

Find out what is possible in a world gone woke at the world premier of QUEERMANIA; Nightmare of Dreams at Colchester Fringe Festival Oct 2023.
